Alternative rock band Mazzy Star, after forming only months prior in Santa Monica, CA, rolled into Metro on August 18th, 1990 with openers Big Hat and Star Children. They had just released their debut album She Hangs Brightly, and its lead single “Blue Flower” would cement them into alternative radio for years to come. The group was most remembered, however, for their biggest mainstream hit, “Fade Into You,” which earned them extensive radio airplay and exposure on VH1 and MTV, and landed at #19 on Pitchfork’s Top 200 Tracks of the ‘90s.
Not to be forgotten, Mazzy Star is back in the news again with a double-sided single released in 2011, an album slated for late 2012, and a string of European tour dates. Check out the above flyer from their 1990 show at Metro and be sure to keep your ear to the ground for more to come from this legendary rock duo.
