The Black Keys are one of those bands that have it figured out. They write and play gritty, stripped-down music that’s true to their style. They’ve captured fans ranging from the snobbiest of music snobs to moms and they’ve somehow been incredibly successful at being a band. But a few years before The Black Keys were playing the United Center and headlining Lollapalooza, we were lucky enough to have them on our stage. One of the earlier dates that the band played Metro was on September 24th, 2004, just after the release of their third album, Rubber Factory. Check out the setlist from the show below and click here for a story on the band and the album that was published in the Tribune that week. And finally, see above for The Black Keys silkscreen (by Dan Grzeca) from the duo’s return to Metro the following year.
