It was inescapable on the airwaves, featured in seemingly every melodramatic TV commercial, and on September 27, 1990, it graced the eager ears of Metro audience members—it was one of Jesus Jones’ many infectious alt-rock hits, “Right Here, Right Now.” The chipper Brits hopped the pond over to the Windy City to groove through their debut album and showcase singles off the upcoming album Doubt, to be released the following year. Not to shy away from the casual religious overtones of the night’s lineup, God Speaks paved the way for Jesus Jones’ radio candy confections and unassuming stage presence.
