Discount that skepticism—this monosyllabic lineup for the night packed quite a punch on October 3, 1995, at Metro. Bombarding the airwaves since their debut single “She’s So High,” Blur’s cheery guitar-driven rock drove into the mainstream and a slew of more radio-friendly singles kept them there. Less than a month after The Great Escape dropped, featuring hit singles “Country House” and “The Universal,” Blur had reached worldwide renown and blew through Chicago for a lengthy set introduced by the sugary hums of Swedish pop outfit Whale. But this wasn’t the first stroll down Clark St. for these chart-raiding Brits; they had already played Metro 4 years earlier—check out the ticket stub above.
