Hailing from the same Twin Cities as indie rock legends Hüsker Du and The Replacements, Soul Asylum began their quest to the forefront of college rock in 1984. The quartet had pressed five albums before their October 27, 1990 appearance at Metro with opening act Run Westy Run. The album in the audience’s most recent memory was And the Horse They Rode In On, featuring singles “Brand New Shine,” “Easy Street,” “Veil of Tears,” and “Nice Guys (Don’t Get Paid).”  Following their solid performance, the persistent Minnesotans continued the uphill battle to mainstream success until they dropped 90’s sad-sap ballad “Runaway Train” in 1992.
