Today’s Metro memory comes from (soon to be former) Metro social media & intern director, Lauren Adermann:

Everyone who has ever worked for Metro will probably say the same thing - I’ve made way too many great memories here to choose just one. It’s true, though. As a music fan, you make a lasting memory the first time you step through those double doors into the lobby. You take in the musty, well worn smell of a building that has been around for a while. The air is static with excitement and you know you’re about to experience something great.
But on this, my last week as a Metro employee, I find it fitting that my final blog post be written fourteen years to the day after Elliott Smith’s 10/9/98 show…and that brings us to my memory of the very first time I stepped onto the Metro stage.
It was a sleepy Monday with no shows scheduled and I was putting up posters in the main room. No one was around (because no way would I let my cool new coworkers see me geeking out) as I crept out on to the stage that overlooked an empty dimly lit room. My first thought went to one of my favorite artists, Elliott Smith; how he stood in that very spot so many times and how unfortunately I never got the chance to experience one of his shows. That’s the cool thing about this venue though. The room holds so many memories for so many people. Whether it’s shows you’ve seen or thinking back to the shows you would kill to have seen. Anyway, I could go on and on, but I’ll leave you with a photo of the Elliott Smith poster featured in Metrospective (the same print - minus the signature - you’ll see on the green room wall if you ever venture back there).
